Sesame Sweets Workshop by Rooted Fare

DELICIOUS LITTLE TOKYO 2024
Hands-on Workshop

presented by the Little Tokyo Community Council, Rooted Fare, and Yoboseyo! Superette

SATURDAY, MAY 4
2–3:30 pm
Yoboseyo! Superette
358 E 2nd Street

Indulge in Rooted Fare's crunchy black sesame butter in two delicious ways—dango and checkered toast—in this engaging afternoon of fun recipes led by Rooted Fare co-founders Ashley Xie and Hedy Yu.

First, learn how to make adorable strawberry and black sesame dango bears made with glutinous rice flour and dip them into Rooted Fare’s black sesame butter at the end for the ultimate sweet and savory treat.

Then, level up your toast game by artfully spreading Rooted Fare’s black sesame butter and cream cheese on Cafe Dulce’s delectable brick toast to create a striking checkered toast that is almost too beautiful to eat.

Please note that these items contain the following allergens: sesame, peanuts, wheat, soy.

$65 per person ticket includes materials and instruction to make and enjoy dango bears (two skewers, six bears total) and checkered brick toast, and one cafe beverage from Yoboseyo! Superette.

All experience levels and ages welcome, but please note that due to the materials included and hands-on nature of this workshop, children must have their own ticket and be accompanied by a ticketed adult. Non-ticketed guests will not be permitted as space is limited. Thank you for understanding!

Advance tickets are closed!

Limited walk-up tickets will be available at the
Go Little Tokyo Pop-up Shop (353 E 1st Street) from 11 am.

MEET THE INSTRUCTORS

Rooted Fare is founded by Ashley Xie and Hedy Yu, childhood friends and daughters of immigrants who grew up in San Gabriel Valley in SoCal. We make fun, modern Chinese American spreads inspired by our favorite foods we grew up eating. Our mission is to spread joy and pride in our culture and through food and community. Together, we've taught over 150+ people how to cook traditional desserts featuring our bestseller, Crunchy Black Sesame Butter.

MEET THE HOST & PROGRAM PARTNER

Yoboseyo! Superette is a family-owned specialty market offering a wide selection of food and drink, and eclectic lifestyle products from unique small businesses. The business prides itself on championing AAPI brands, nurturing budding enterprises, and building connections with other local businesses.

The owners, Cindy and James Choi, have been deeply involved in Little Tokyo since opening Cafe Dulce in 2011 (and its four additional locations throughout LA!). While they originally took over the superette space to roast coffee for Cafe Dulce, they soon saw an opportunity for a vibrant new storefront and community gathering space.
